The Medieval Fayre held this weekend at the Dean Barwick School in Witherslack was a great success. Our October weather held out providing a perfect, warm and still day for the stall holders and visitors a like.
The 800 year anniversary of the Magna Carta was set up as a fund raiser for the local children's school and Chris Rabone Landscapes set up the site ahead of the fair itself and then became just one of the 20 other businesses who set up a stall to join in the celebrations. Together the Fayre raised over £2,000 for Dean Barwick School.
To give you an insight in to the action people came from all around Cumbria exhibiting excellent reenactment of Medieval battles, the children could have a go at archery and sword fighting with foam swords.
Stalls and stands included some excellent flower arranging, falcon displays, essential welly wanging & coconut shys and the all important soggy stocks, a blacksmith artist came from Yew Tree Barn exhibiting his talents, while parents contributed a huge array of delicious cakes to be sold alongside Rinaldo's coffee. There were bread, honey & a butchery stall, healing and fortune telling tents, willow weaving and more. Many people including the children came dressed from Medieval times and a rock band played to keep the activities lively.
On Chris Rabone Landscapes Stand we set out samples of local stone and paving used regularly by our craftsmen's plus we lined our stand with hessian and decked it out with plans, perspectives and photos of projects that we have completed in recent years and months. Our aim was to be able to guide people through the initial stages all the way to a finished garden should they ever want to undertake such works.
We hope you enjoy the photos of the Magna Carta during the set up phase. It certainly seemed like all the adults and children a like had a jolly good day too.
