Rural Cottage, Gamblesby

This Autumn 2013, we completed the landscape for a garden in Gamblesby, near Penrith. The brief was to enhance the area to the side of the house that was essentially a large gravel area for parking. We designed a patio area with beautiful yorkstone pavers to provide a contrast with the sandstone house, the parking area was defined with resin bound gravel. We created a large curved planting area defined with yorkstone setts and installed a 4m wide hardwood gate.

The planting was designed to create year round interest. The client wanted a mixture of hot colours blending through to cooler greys, blues and greens. This created a very dramatic planting scheme that worked really well against the sandstone walls. A mature Cercidiphyllum japonicum was planted to give instant impact.

In other areas of the garden we created a built in sandstone BBQ, rebuilt the sides of the pond and tidied up planting areas. We are currently designing the area around the pond to create a relaxing pond side setting with seating areas and lush planting.
