Creating a reservoir

The images below show a project that we recently completed at Hilltop near Ulverston. An existing stream was widened and dug out to a depth of about 1meter and lined using the method described above. The newly created pond was then dammed using a stone wall. The liner was battened into place up against the stone wall and hidden with rocks. Shallow marginal shelves were created with rocks retaining an area of gravel to a depth of 200mm that marginal plants can be planted into. The optimal depth for marginal planting is from a minimum of 200mm deep depending on the requirements of the plant. The gravel can be graded up to the edge on a gentle slope to allow for access for amphibious creatures.
